Processing Instructions

Collect fresh stool and place in a Cary Blair preservative within 1 hour of collection. Send 1 mL stool in a sterile IATA approved screw capped plastic container. Swab specimens (rectal) in viral transport medium.

Stability

Room Temp 3 days, Refrigerated 14 days, Frozen 14 days.

Rejection Criteria

Stool or rectal swabs preserved in formalin, SAF, or PVA. Specimens received in non-sterile or leaking containers. Emesis will not be tested. Culturette older than 24 hours.
