Collect a fresh sample without using a tourniquet to avoid hemolysis. Do not use plasma separator devices. Lithium heparin anticoagulant is preferred but edta is also acceptable. Transport promptly to the laboratory. Plasma needs to be removed from cells within 2 hours of collection. If testing is to be delayed, remove plasma from cells using caution to avoid in-vitro hemolysis or contamination. Frz aliquot.
