Acceptable Collection Tube(s) or Specimen
Green aerobic and orange anaerobic bottle for adult. Yellow aerobic bottle for pediatric draw or short draw adult aerobic.
Processing Instructions
Collect 5 mL minimum in each bottle. Green aerobic bottle and orange anaerobic bottle. If patient is a difficult venipuncture, it is best to put 5 mL minimum blood in green aerobic bottle only. Pediatric Blood Culture requires 1 mL minimum blood and no more than 4 mL in a Yellow Blood Culture Bottle. Children greater than 80 lb. should have 20 ml drawn in adult bottles. Transport at Room Temperature. Do not incubate, refrigerate or freeze before arrival in Lab
Stability
Stability: Room Temperature samples should be received in lab within 48 hrs of collection

Rejection Criteria
Rejection: Expired bottles, set received with only an anaerobe bottle. Set received after 48 hrs. from draw.
